Retailers provided over 40% of new jobs among young people in last year
British Retail Consortium (BRC) figures reveal that retailers provided more than 40% of all new jobs in the UK among 16 to 21 year-olds over the last 12 months.
At a time when young people are struggling to enter the jobs market, over the last year, more than 13,500 jobs for new starters under the age of 21 were created by retailers. Retail now accounts for 42% of all jobs taken by 16 to 17 year-olds.

Nestlé is to acquire a 60% stake in Chinese confectionery company Hsu Fu Chi International for $1.7bn in a move deeper into the fast-growing markets of China. Hsu Fu Chi, which makes sugar sweets, cereal-based snacks, cakes and the traditional Chinese snack sachima, is listed in Singapore and employs 16,000 people.
