Following last week’s strong results, Morrisons has increased its market share over the past three months. The Northern based supermarket chain posted the strongest growth of any of the ‘big four’ supermarkets, according to the latest figures from Kantar Worldpanel, growing its market share to 11.6% in the 12 weeks to 4 September.

Sales for the period were up 5.3%, according to Kantar, ahead of the 4.5% growth shown by the wider market. Sainsbury’s also emerged as a winner among the big four, improving sales by 4.8%.  During this period, Tesco and Asda both saw their market share fall compared to the equivalent period last year, down from 30.8% to 30.4% for Tesco and from 17.8% to 17.4% for its Leeds-based rival.
