UK's first public hydrogen fuel station opens
Despite there being no hydrogen-powered cars being available for purchase in the UK, Honda has opened up Britain's first public hydrogen fuel station, in Swindon.
Located in Honda's South Marsden plant -- about half way along the M4 between London and Swansea -- the pumps can fill vehicles at both 350 bar and 700 bar filling pressures, top up cars in five minutes and service motors back-to-back from a bank of hydrogen cylinders.
With no hydrogen-powered cars on the market, only a few rare imports roaming the streets and "no plans" to bring Honda's own FCX Clarity to the UK, what's the point? Well, Honda believes its station will encourage car developers and kick-start government initiatives to expand hydrogen infrastructure across the country.
